Cross linking for keratoconus stabilization

The most modern method for the correction of keratoconus is the cross linking of collagen fibers (collagen cross linking-CXL).

Its purpose is to strengthen the collagen bonds and the industrial reinforcement and stabilization of the cornea.
An injection of riboflavin (B2) vitamin is performed, followed by the application of ultraviolet A (UVA) radiation.

In this way, the chemical bonds of the cornea are strengthened and the progression of keratoconus is slowed down.
