Age-Related Macular Degeneration
This is a degenerative disease that affects the macula and it is one of the leading causes of vision loss in developed countries in people over 60 years of age.
It is divided into dry type of AMD and wet type of AMD. Risk factors include age, heredity, smoking, hypertension and nutritional factors.
The diagnosis is made by fundoscopy and OCT of the macula and the treatment is individualized depending on the type of degeneration and the severity of the disease.
